Financing SMEs, the missing middle

This newsletter arrives as we mark 45 years of Oikocredit, and we start with our anniversary video to celebrate this milestone. In the video we hear Thos Gieskes, Oikocredit’s Managing Director, looking back at our 45-year story and how Oikocredit was founded.

Forty-five years on, we continue to go where our work is needed. In this newsletter we highlight small and medium enterprises (SMEs), financing what is often called the missing middle, the gap between microenterprises and large companies. Many experts recognise that SMEs are the backbone of a thriving economy, yet the SME sector is underserved by financial institutions. This makes working with partners who finance SMEs especially important for Oikocredit.

We also bring you news of our recently appointed Director of Finance & Risk, together with the quarterly roundup of facts and figures.
