Oikocredit's main activity is to provide loans to microfinance institutions (MFIs). These organisations give small loans to people who normally would not be able to get a loan. The microloans given by MFIs often include financial literacy and other trainings, and sometimes come with savings and insurance.
Oikocredit also provides loans to other organisations, including farmer’s cooperatives and other enterprises. These organisations are our partners in carrying out our social mission.
We select our partners through a thorough due diligence process. Oikocredit aims for long-term relationships. Once a partnership is established, Oikocredit carries out social performance monitoring and mentoring, and occasionally assists partners with their processes or equipment.
Oikocredit often provides loans in local currencies, which makes borrowing easier and less risky for the partner.
